PUBLIC POLICY
In this post Katrina/Rita era, the LAUW successfully established a legislative agenda dedicated to meet our commitment in providing all citizens the increased capacity to become independent and self-sufficient. During this last 2006 state legislative session, the LAUW successfully lobbied for the passage of limited liability legislation which allows all United Way agencies to control insurance cost as we perform the ever increasing role of direct provider. The LAUW has also successfully increased our public private partnership with state and local governments.
During this past 2008 state legislative session, the state of Louisiana allocated $750,000 in funding to enhance and expand the current 2-1-1 service delivery infrastructure and Louisiana has adopted the LAUW 2-1-1 model. This model is designed to create a seamless 2-1-1 statewide infrastructure connecting all six (6) 2-1-1 service provider systems. Local United Ways provided some $1.5 million dollars in funding to the 2-1-1 system. These resources help to support technology enhancement, staff training, and data resource development which help to confirm community impact.
