AmeriCorps* VISTA has approved LAUW’s Concept Paper and Application.   

AmeriCorps*VISA (Volunteers in Service to America) provides full-time members to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.

AmeriCorps* VISTA has approved LAUW’s application for 11 VISTA members.  We have named our VISTA the “LAUW PROJECT.”  Each United Way that is interested in a VISTA should apply directly with LAUW and describe what the VISA member will be working on at your United Way.  Please be very specific about what work each VISTA member is going to perform.  The VISTA has to be a new program that will help eliminate poverty.   It can be a program that currently exists ONLY if it has a new program that is being attached to it.

 If your United Way is interested, please enter your information in the “VISTA INSTRUCTIONS TO UNITED WAYS” (word document) and forward to PamelaA@unitedwaynola.org.  The application deadline is July 30, 2008.

After all data is received, LAUW will announce the availability of the VISTAs and assignment of VISTA slots by email and place on the LAUW website.
